Professor Parente will discuss the new incentives and limitations of the health insurance and financial services industry. A particular focus will be on the pros and cons of insured versus cash payment for medical services as experience in markets across the globe.

Stephen T Parente

Professor Parente has a doctorate from Johns Hopkins University. He has been the principal investigator on large funded studies regarding consumer-directed health plans, health information technology, and health policy micro-simulation. From 2019 to 2021, he served as Chief Economist for Health Policy and Senior Economist on the Council of Economic Advisers in the Executive Office of the President at the White House in Washington, DC. Previously, he was Senior Adviser to the Secretary for Health Economics in the Department of Health and Human Services, Vice-Chair of Academy Health, and the Governing Chair of the Health Care Cost Institute from 2013 to 2017. He is the Founding Director of the Medical Valuation Laboratory, a nine-college interdisciplinary effort to accelerate medical innovation from scientists, clinicians, and entrepreneurs. Dr. Parente was a health policy advisor for the McCain 2008 Presidential Campaign and served as Legislative Fellow in the office of Senator John D. Rockefeller IV (D?WV) in 1992/93.

中山大學(xué)嶺南學(xué)院金融系教授、博士生導(dǎo)師，非全日制保險(xiǎn)專業(yè)碩士項(xiàng)目主任，中國(guó)社會(huì)保障學(xué)會(huì)理事、青年委員會(huì)委員，美國(guó)波士頓大學(xué)和布蘭迪斯大學(xué)訪問(wèn)學(xué)者，主要研究領(lǐng)域?yàn)樯鐣?huì)保障、醫(yī)療保險(xiǎn)與衛(wèi)生政策，相關(guān)研究成果發(fā)表在《Oxford Handbook of Retirement》《管理世界》《世界經(jīng)濟(jì)》《金融研究》《統(tǒng)計(jì)研究》等核心刊物上，多篇被《新華文摘》、人大復(fù)印報(bào)刊資料轉(zhuǎn)載，入選《復(fù)印報(bào)刊資料重要轉(zhuǎn)載來(lái)源作者（2022年版）》，主持國(guó)家自然科學(xué)基金和國(guó)家社科基金項(xiàng)目，以及多項(xiàng)政府部門委托課題，參與多項(xiàng)國(guó)家社科基金重大重點(diǎn)項(xiàng)目。
